It is free and there is no obligation. We talk about the room rather than the products: who uses it, when, what currently drives you mad, and what the space will physically allow. You can do it at your house or come to the showroom. Nothing is measured up formally and nothing is charged for until you decide you want the design stage.

The design and costings stage runs from £250 to £500 depending on how much room there is to draw and how much detail the project needs, with £60 added if a site visit is required. That buys the measured drawing, the 3D imaging and a proper costed specification — and it is deducted from nothing and hidden behind nothing, which is why we put the figure here rather than making you ask for it.

Yes. We use an in-house CAD imaging system to build a computer representation of your concept, so at the second consultation you are looking at your room — your window, your ceiling height, your worktop run — rather than a photograph of somebody else's. Proportions, door style, handle choice and lighting all get judged as a room instead of as a list of products, and changing your mind at that point costs nothing.

No. We source and manufacture the cabinetry for your design rather than assembling it from ready-made carcasses, which is what makes the awkward corners, the odd-width runs and the full-height cabinetry possible. Hand-painted doors, high-gloss finishes, integrated appliances, waterfall edges, glass splashbacks, granite upstands and solid timber worktops are all part of that.

Allow a minimum of six to eight weeks from the order going in to delivery, because the cabinetry is made rather than picked. The fitting programme is agreed on top of that and depends on how much building work sits alongside it. We would far rather give you a real date after the design is signed off than an optimistic one on the phone.

No — kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms are all designed and built the same way, and a good number of jobs are more than one of the three. We also take on the building work that goes with them: conservatories, utility rooms, extra bedrooms, oak-framed garages and other ways of finding more space, and we have experience working with the planning department and with local architects.

It is for the jobs that are too small to be a project but too annoying to leave. Plumbing, decorating, repairs and maintenance, and refurbishment and renovation work across Harpenden, Redbourn, St Albans and the surrounding villages. Tell us what the list is and we will tell you whether it is an afternoon or a fortnight.

More than none, and we would not pretend otherwise — but we have renovated several houses while living in them, so the sequencing is planned around the household rather than around the trades' convenience. You get a programme before the start date, and the aim throughout is to keep disruption to a minimum.

Redbourn, Harpenden and St Albans first, then the villages around them — Wheathampstead, Markyate, Flamstead, Kinsbourne Green and Childwickbury among others — and further out to Hemel Hempstead, Welwyn Garden City, Radlett, Luton and Dunstable for the larger building work. If you are nearby but not on the list, ring and ask.

Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, closed at weekends. The number on this site is a mobile, though, so if you are mid-project and something needs an answer on a Saturday you will not be talking to an answerphone.

There is. Members of Harpenden Rugby Football Club get £150 off a cabinetry order, and we donate a further £150 to the club on top. Mention it when you ring — it is not applied automatically.

Ring and describe the room. We will not put a price on a kitchen over the phone, because the honest answer depends on the size of the run, how much of it is cabinetry, what the worktop is and how much building work sits behind it. What we will do is tell you whether what you are imagining is in the right postcode, before you spend anything at all.
